the jacket pairing with shorts has been done already. trends tend to be above the knee shorts.
i prefer knee length fitted, and simply a long sleeve dress shirt (no jacket as this is summer after all, and everyone else has a jacket) paired with a simple solid tie. best summer look for men thus far.
great eye, I've seen this trend start cropping up already. agree with your tailoring, and also prefer top button to be closed, assuming of course not one of those 97 degree days! =P
